Ansonia black iron case with exposed escapement and porcelain dial with Arabic numerals, ca. 1890. Cherubs cast in relief oneither side of thedial, the base inset with a Louis XVI-style insert. The entire style of the clock is ofan American interpretation in the late 19thcentury of theFrench Louis XVI period. The clock is a fine French black and red marble Egyptian revival clock with red marbledisk in center of dial.Dial flanked by gold leaf Egyptian incising, with a large winged sun disk engraving on the bottom of the case. Two brass pillars with cartouches ofEgyptian mythical creatures on either side of the dial. The case surmounted by a gilded and patinated bronze sphinx. Napoleon III period, ca.1870.
